The Bremont Headquarters, in Henley on Thames, was awarded ‘the best small commercial building’. Here is what the Local Authority Building Control had to say:
‘The aim of the building’s designers was to create a traditional external design that conceals a modern manufacturing space. The custom built watchmaking facility combines traditional materials in keeping with the area’s agricultural heritage with a thoroughly modern, open plan design. A combination that throws up a variety of fire safety issues.
Early liaison between Wycombe’s building control team and the fire service resulted in all the fire safety issues being resolved without additional cost to the developer.
The award highlights the determination of all parties to complete this project to the highest standards using locally sourced materials without compromising safety and is a testament to all the design, construction and building control professionals involved.’
