Land Rover BAR took victory in the Louis Vuitton America's Cup World Series Fukuoka in Japan today but more importantly the British team took overall victory of the Louis Vuitton America's Cup World Series, earning them double points for Bermuda next year.
America's Cup defenders ORACLE TEAM USA finish the final standings second, earning them an important bonus point for 2017. For all six teams their attention now shifts to next year and the launching of their new America's Cup Class boats ahead of the Louis Vuitton America's Cup Qualifiers which begin in May 2017.
The America's Cup is taking place in Asia for the first time in the sport's long and illustrious history; this weekend the six teams are racing in Fukuoka, Japan home to the Japanese team SoftBank Team Japan.
Three races, three winners on the penultimate day of the Louis Vuitton America's Cup World Series. Standings leaders Land Rover BAR took the first race win, with home favourites SoftBank Team Japan victorious in Race 2 and America's Cup defenders ORACLE TEAM USA winning the last race of the day.
Looking ahead to tomorrow the British team look well placed to take overall victory of the series and take 2 bonus points to Bermuda next year. Racing begins at 1pm local time on Sunday.
