THE UNEXPECTED PATH

Vivek Shah never set out to be a fighter pilot aviation found him. Raised in a Kenyan-Indian immigrant family in South Carolina, he was expected to follow a traditional path. But something inside him resisted. Seeking purpose beyond convention, he took a leap of faith that would lead him to the cockpit of an F-15E Strike Eagle, flying one of the world’s most advanced fighter jets in high-stakes missions.

HOW HAS AVIATION SHAPED YOUR LIFE & CAREER?

Aviation didn’t just shape my life – it defined it. I never set out to be a pilot, but once I stepped into the cockpit, everything changed. Flying the F-15 wasn’t just about skill; it was about discipline, resilience, and pushing limits every single day. It taught me to take challenges head-on, to trust my team, and to perform under pressure when failure wasn’t an option. That mindset carried through every part of my life – from leadership to entrepreneurship. Whether in the air or on the ground, aviation instilled in me a relentless drive to take things further, to never settle and to always strive for excellence.

WHAT ROLE DOES TIMING PLAY IN FLYING?

Timing is everything. Every second counts in the cockpit, from executing precise manoeuvres to being on target at just the right moment. As an F-15 aviator, I lived by the motto ‘on time, on target’ because being even a fraction off could mean the difference between success and failure. A pilot’s timepiece needs to be just as reliable – clear, precise, and built for endurance. You can’t afford distractions; you just need to glance down and get exactly what you need instantly. Just like in flight, precision, durability, and reliability are critical. Whether in the air or in life, being on time isn’t just a habit, it’s a discipline.
