Super Sunday

The light conditions continued on Sunday at the Louis Vuitton America's Cup World Series and after a strong day on Saturday Artemis easily secured victory in the opening race of the day, putting them in what would be an unassailable lead and overall victory of the regatta.

Race 5 of the weekend saw Land Rover BAR make a storming start that would set them up for victory ahead of local favourites Groupama Team France. The home team looked set to take victory in the last race but patchy wind on the penultimate leg meant SoftBank Team Japan was best positioned and they crossed the line ahead of Emirates Team New Zealand. It was a difficult weekend for ORACLE TEAM USA without Jimmy Spithill at the helm in conditions that often don't suit the defenders.

Official Race Day 1 - Saturday

Artemis Racing dominated race day 1 at the Louis Vuitton America's Cup World Series taking victory in race 1 and race 2 on a light and very hot afternoon in the south of France. The team from Sweden read the tricky conditions best and have a lead of 4 points from home favourites Groupama Team France, with Emirates Team New Zealand third at the end of day 1.

It was a difficult start to the day for overall world series leaders, Land Rover BAR, who came home 6th, and last, in race 1 and 2 before reaffirming their position within the fleet with victory in the last race of the day. This puts them tied with ORACLE TEAM USA for first place overall for the world series.

Practice Day - Friday

After perfect conditions on Thursday in Toulon the six America's Cup teams hoped for the same exciting sailing on Friday for official practice racing. With racing due to commence at 2pm local time it quickly became clear that the sea breeze would need to build significantly and quickly for racing to be declared by Race Committee. The wind never made it over the necessary 5 knots leaving all the teams disappointed not to get some solid racing under their belts ahead of the weekend.

The forecast for the rest of the weekend isn't looking much more favourable but everyone will be crossing their fingers this evening for more wind, with only two Louis Vuitton America's Cup World Series to go before Bermuda 2017, everything is still very much to play for.
